Apr 12,  · The Stranglers IV, which it wasn’t, was their first album and it was, of course, called ‘Rattus Norvegicus’, ornery buggers the Stranglers are, but this is a brilliant debut, released in April I have a copy already but it is completely knackered so I bought another for £ i the used bin at my local record store/5().

Formed in , The Stranglers managed to align themselves with the punk movement by the time of their debut album, Rattus Norvegicus, where Martin Rushent's production brought out their churning rhythm section and highlighted their brutal lyrics. The first five minutes of "Sometimes" broke all the punk rules, but mostly for featuring Dave Greenfield's "Happy Organ" in the midst of the industrial rumble.

4. Of the supporting cast, the seven minute long 'Down In The Sewer' is ambitious and 'Goodbye Toulouse' sports a kind of romantiscim vocally. It's a brilliant 37 minute long album, that's it really. Of everything else, you'll make up your own minds.
